Netflix Vs Premium Cable Services

October 25th, 2010

It looks like Netflix is overtaking Premium Cable Services for entertainment. In the U.S. market Netflix has more than 20% of internet traffic during the prime-time hours of 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Another surprising statistic from Netflix is that TV shows are now viewed on their service for about the same number  of hours as are movies.

With unlimited viewing of movies and TV shows for only $8.99 per month, Netflix is a bargain to households in this economic down-turn. At the moment Netflix has around 15 million subscribers and its 3Q results were stunning. In a year-over-year comparison Netflix added 52% more subscibers.

With Netflix now on TiVo, gaming consoles such as Wii and PSP not to mention the new televisions that are coming out with WiFi built in, it looks like Netflix has definitely moved from a DVD mail order company that offers streaming video to a full-fledged video streaming company that also offers DVD via mail.
