After doing some research today it appears that this is a mere hoax. That does not mean that someone can’t or won’t create a virus infected app called Christmas Tree, it just that there is not one out there now.

Koobface was an incredibly effective virus let loose on Facebook, not to mention all those pesky hacks that post viral videos, etc. so it is wise to be vigilant. .

Y’all have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

In the mid-90′s Marc Andreessen gave us the Netscape browser and changed the way we viewed the internet. Today he is set to release a new browser called RockMelt. Marc did not build Rockmelt. Tim Howes and Eric Vishria, who formerly worked with Andreessen, are the creators but Andreessen sits on the board of directors. Just as he sits on the board of Facebook.

Why is that notable? Because the browser Rockmelt is built around the premise that most people are using the internet for Facebook, Google searches, tweeting on Twitter and a few favorite sites. “This is a chance for us to build a browser all over again,” Andreessen said. “These are all things we would have done (at Netscape) if we had known how people were going to use the Web.”

Since Rockmelt only works if you have a Facebook account I am not sure how that will sit with the anti-facebook folks, but time will tell.

You can check out the RockMelt browser here:

Facebook is implementing three new security features that you may want to use especially if you login to Facebook from multiple devices. You can now use temporary passwords, remote logouts and account recovery updates to further protect your account.

Temporary passwords will let you send a password via text message from a verified mobile phone for your Facebook account. This is ideal for when you are using public wifi hotspots. The password is only good for 20 minutes so if you leave any trace of your login at the hotspot there won’t be much harm anyone can do with it.

If you want to see what other devices of yours that are logged in to Facebook you can use remote login. I tend to forget and stay logged on Facebook via my iPhone. This will let you check and remotely logout.

Facebook will now start prompting you to update your account information. I don’t know if this will impact your security as much as the other two, but it certainly can’t hurt.

The Next American Tax Rebellion Has Begun

My father, Ronald Reagan, battled successfully to simplify the tax code but his work has been largely undone. The arrogance of those who use the tax code to manipulate citizen behavior and Congressional ambitions for personal advancement have again corrupted the already destructive income tax system. It will fall to the American people to once again reject unfair taxation that favors the mighty at the expense of the public.

These 237 years after the Boston Tea Party and 31 years after the tax revolt that contributed to the election of my father as President, America is again rejecting “taxation without representation” and the rule of new American aristocrats. This time, the digital world is joining the physical world so even home-bound Americans can voice their dissatisfaction with our corrupted tax system.

With a new online technology that brings the future to Uncle Sam, a hundred thousand people have already chosen graphic avatars to begin an online tax revolt march on Washington. Arriving April 15th, hundreds of thousands of Americans will digitally join those who can afford the time and expense of physically traveling to Washington for what may be the most powerful tax protest since Boston Harbor.

My father said, “Our federal tax system is, in short, utterly impossible, utterly unjust and completely counterproductive, it reeks with injustice and is fundamentally un-American… it has earned a rebellion and it’s time we rebelled.” That second great tax rebellion is now underway at online tax revolt.

Tea Party patriots, Fair Taxers, Flat Taxers, and most Americans of every political persuasion understand that the federal tax system fuels unchecked government spending, hides the cost of government from the American taxpayer and has become corrupted into indecipherable by Congressional profits and power. Citizens are coming together from across the political spectrum and across the nation to wake Washington up to the voice of the American people.
